What We Do
The Braveheart Youth Foundation is a Winnipeg based charity which works with a sister organization, Braveheart Miners and Multipurpose Co-operative Society, in Sierra Leone. The goal of Braveheart Youth Foundation is to supply a desperately needed helping hand to the most disadvantaged and marginalized children in Sierra Leone's eastern province of Kono. It intends to do this by purchasing and refurbishing a large, 3,000 square foot shelter in the provincial capital of Koidu which will be operated by Braveheart Miners and Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society as a home and refuge for children who have none.

Why?
Sierra Leone experienced a series of brutal civil wars from 1991 to 2000. These conflicts devastated much of the country and brought enormous suffering to its people. The recently released movie, Blood Diamond, gives a reasonably accurate picture of conditions in the country during the civil war. While the war is now over, the devastating impact on the children of Sierra Leone continues to be felt. Children displaced, orphaned or left stigmatized after the war have no support structure and are often traumatized through the loss of their parents or their involvement in the war. This leaves many children to the streets and often forces

them into the harsh work of the open pit diamond mines for a means of survival. The founders and members of Braveheart Youth Foundation and Braveheart Miners and Multipurpose Co-operative Society believe that a brighter future for humankind should start small- by affirming the universality of human worth and refusing to sit by and let these innocent children suffer.
